Tomas Vu is an American artist whose primary media are painting, printmaking, and installation art. He was born in 1963 in Saigon, Vietnam and moved to El Paso, Texas at the age of ten. He received his BFA from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1987, and his MFA from Yale University in 1990.

In his statement, Tomas explains: "My work presents a world askew. The paintings and prints are broadly landscapes, often grounded with trees or architectural elements. They depict forces in opposition - destruction and recovery, chaos and clarity, brutality and civility. The recognizable imagery seems to approach from all directions, as though propelled by their own gravity. Trees descend as from spaceships. Strange shapes of wood in many colors evoke impossible buildings that seem to birth machines. Stars and landscape and foreground and background undulate in and out of each other. All of this suggests a world of disorientation: where machines and man start to meld, where space is closer than ever, and in which implosion is possible at any moment, but so is exploration."
