Announcing Leonard McComb RA: Alive from Edge to Edge

An online exhibition

Waterhouse & Dodd are delighted to announce Alive from Edge to Edge, an online exhibition of the late Leonard McComb RA. The catalogue will illustrate the breadth of McComb's oeuvre from still lifes to portraits, watercolours to ceramics, all accompanied by the testimonials of artists, collectors and academics.

The tributes by Nicholas Usherwood, Andrew Lambirth and Charles Saumarez Smith amongst others, praise McComb's exceptional draughtsmanship and the vigour he instilled in his work.

Leonard McComb (1930-2018) was a Royal Academician and Keeper of the Royal Academy 1995-98 whose life and work were celebrated at this year's Summer Exhibition. His art pays acute attention to nature and McComb attempts to instil the essence of the subject in each work. When he was 16 McComb's father gave him a book on William Blake whose theories on the connection between the physical and spiritual realms resonated profoundly with the young artist. Throughout a career which spanned six decades, McComb attempted to reconcile the outward appearance of his subject with the experience of their presence.

The catalogue is available for download below. Works will be available to view by appointment either in our offices in Savile Row or at the artist's studio in Brixton.
