Russell Hall was a painter and teacher who studied at the Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art in Dundee and then in Paris under Friesz. On his return he took a teaching post at St Martin's School of Art in central London, although his residential address was in Halstead, Essex. He exhibited widely in London and beyond, including the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (a society to which he was elected in 1959).
